Members present: Ruthie Miner, Fred & Jeanne Delahaye, Wes & Lyn Hofmaster, Regina Shaffer, Carolyn Osier, Cynthia Guerra, Carol McGrath, Elizabeth Koller, Catherine Swanson, Lauren Wendt. Guest: Troya Duncanson. Catherine called the meeting to order and Elizabeth Koller read the ethics statement. Lee read the minutes from the last meeting, they were approved. Treasurer's Report Wes gave the Treasurer =s Report. Most of it had to do with our July show.Checking Balance 5/11/02

Balance 10/17/02 $5,346.26 Aby Rescue Balance 5/11/02 $ 441.14
Balance 10/17/02 $ 968.10 Actual Checking Account Balance as of 10/17/02 $6,314.36 This report was exciting because we actually made over $3,000 on our show in July this year. Lauren reminded everyone about the website, www.wendtalong.com/ABI(If you have forgotten the user ID and/or password for the Members Only section contact Lauren) In the public section there is a page for listing retired adult cats looking for homes. In the members only section there is a page for listing kittens for sale so that members can refer pet buyers to people who have kittens. Regina presented a proposal from Crown City Cat Club for ABI to be Crown City =s Asister club@. We frequently borrow things from Crown City to put on our shows, since they are a bigger club. Being a sister club will not add to or change the responsibilities of either club in any way, it=s just a friendly gesture. We voted unanimously to become Crown City=s sister club.2004 Show Discussion was held concerning which format for shows was preferred
among the members. Many people prefer the one-day 6 ring format since it is less
expensive, moves faster and allows a weekend day for other things. Others prefer the
traditional 2-day format since the slower pace allows more time for the judges to view the
cats, there is more time for gathering with friends, and there are usually more vendors.
The decision on the format of the 2004 show is tabled until our January meeting. Currently one day 6-ring shows can only be held on Saturdays, unless the Monday following is a holiday. We discussed presenting a resolution at the annual to allow these shows on Sundays, whether Monday is a holiday or not. Many people would prefer to have Saturday to prepare and travel to a show. Fred will write a resolution. In addition, Fred will also write a resolution concerning scoring kittens for regional and national wins who Asplit seasons@. Currently kittens whose kitten careers span two seasons cannot gain enough points for a regional or national win in either season.New Members Membership applications were presented from the following: Troya Duncanson, Dianne Henderson, Keith & Annette Denham, and Anna-Lou Weston-Lewis. Keith and Annette live in Arizona, Anna-Lou lives in Colorado. All were accepted into the club as members or associate members. A new roster is needed so all the club members have the ability to
contact each other. Wes will prepare the roster in time for the January meeting, since CFA
requires a membership list at that time as well. Remember, if your dues are not current,
you will not be listed as a member, and that will make it more difficult for other members
to contact you. The kitten match will be on Sunday, July 20, 2003. Possibilities for topics are to repeat the blood typing we did a few years ago, or perhaps to have a micro-chipping clinic. Discussion was tabled until the January meeting. The topic for discussion at the January meeting will be different
ways to test for the blood type on our cats and kittens. Elizabeth will ask a vet who
teaches at a local vet school to present some information. Elections were held for the club officers for
2003. Nominated were: We discussed how to deal with some of these rescue situations involving shelters. Some shelters will work with rescue groups, some won =t. We should have a set contract for those who adopt a cat from SCAR, and it should be made clear that this is an adoption, and that we can=t make any kind of guarantees on these cats like we would if we were selling them. Fred will revise the current contract. We discussed how to decide how much money should be spent on any one rescued cat. Lyn can spend up to $250 of SCAR funds on each cat =s needs; anything above $250 needs to have approval from the club=s Board of Directors.Regina will design some small cards for SCAR that we can display so folks looking for a cat to adopt instead of a kitten to purchase can see what we do. Fundraising: Mark Neckameyer, one of our adopters who is very active in rescue, suggests that a big garage sale among all the club members is a great way to make money. It was also suggested that when we have show halls that have kitchens we can use, having breakfast to sell to exhibitors is another really good way to make money. We discussed what we can do for the people outside of the club and the cat fancy who help us with our rescue work. These people are very important, as they tend to provide foster homes more easily than many breeders can. Should we make them honorary members? Give them a letter of thanks or a certificate? If we ask them to join, it doesn =t seem that we should make them pay dues, since it is not the cat fancy and ABI they are interested in, they are actually interested in SCAR.We also discussed the new group, National Abyssinian Rescue. It seems they are posting messages about So. Cal. cats who need rescue to the Aby list but not to the SCAR list, even though Mimi, who set up our SCAR email list, is on the SCAR list itself. So we seem to be bypassed regarding cats within our area. NAR actually got on Lyn =s case because a cat who could have been rescued was euthanized at a shelter in our area, even though NAR gave Lyn less than a day=s notice about the cat. Unfortunately it can take some time to get the word out so that someone can actually go to a shelter and rescue a cat. This is the point where we need the shelters to notify rescue groups of cats on Adeath row@.The next meeting is on January 16, 2003, location to be determined. Remember, our regular meetings are on the third Thursdays of October and January, and a date approximately in the third week of May (we have to be flexible depending on when the voting issues for the Annual are sent by Central Office), and at the July show/kitten match. Brags: Elizabeth and Dan were married Friday night before the Qualifier show! Congratulations to them, and also on the home they were able to get to house all those Abys and Meezers. |
